Your assignment of answering the question: What would be the best planet in our solar system to visit on a vacation? has three main tasks that need to be completed by your crew:

  1. Download, Print, and complete the Solar System Report (Report #1)
  2. Download, Print, and complete your Planet Report (Report #2)
  3. Complete your final report

 

Please use the following set of instructions, or process to help you completing each of these tasks. Try to use this information as a step-by-step set of instructions to help you complete your tasks.

Task #1: Solar System Report
Amount of Time Needed: 30 minutes
What needs to be turned in: Report #1

  1. You will be assigned to a crew of 4 by the mission commander, your teacher.
  2. Make up with a name for your crew. (some examples might be: The Soaring Satellites or The Robot Rancheros)
  3. Each crew member needs to decide which role they will play (journalist, geologist, photographer, or astrologist). There can only be one of each role per crew of 4. More information about each of these roles is listed on the Introduction Page.
  4. Let the commander / teacher know who will be playing each of the roles.
  5. Visit the Resources Page find the Solar System Research Area
  6. Download and Print Report #1 (the link is on the right side of the page)
  7. Review report with the crew. PLEASE NOTE: All answers for Report #1 can be found in Solar System Research area!
  8. As a group, look at the report to learn about the questions you will have to answer.
  9. Complete the report as a group and turn it in to the teacher.
  10. Decide on what planet you want to recommend as the vacation planet of the future. When making this group decision, try to think of some reason on what makes a good vacation on Earth (is it pretty?, is the weather nice?, is there a lot of things to see?).

 

Task #2: Planet Report
Amount of Time Needed: 30 minutes
What needs to be turned in: Report #2
  1. Let the commander / teacher know what planet you have chosen to recommend (remember, it cannot be the planet Earth)
  2. Visit the Resources Page and jump to the Planet Library area of the web page
  3. Download and Print Report #2 (the link is on the right side of the page)
  4. Review report with the crew. PLEASE NOTE: All answers for Report #2 can be found in Planet Library!
  5. Divide report pages so each member has their report page (for example, the photographer should have the Photographer Sheet)
  6. Complete individual reports by answering the required questions.
  7. Complete group report by answering the required questions.
  8. Organize and review your research data (Report #1 and Report#2) and discuss as a group how you will complete your Final Report.

 

Task #3: Final Report
Amount of Time Needed: 30 minutes
What needs to be turned in: Final Report
  1. Decide as a group how you will complete the final report (writing a paper, creating a giving a team speech, making a travel poster, making a PowerPoint, or making a travel brochure)
  2. Create report. Remember, the main purpose of the report is to answer the question: What would be the best planet in our solar system to visit on a vacation?
  3. Each crew member will contribute to this report and your findings should include opinions and facts from the perspective of the role that you have been assigned to.
  4. Present findings to fellow classmates and explain why you think the planet you have chose would be best planet for vacations of the future.
